Nekoten House

A heaven on earth for cats — lifelong sanctuary care in Chiba

Location:  Chiba, Japan

Mission:

To provide the best life and highest quality care for terminally-ill, elderly, abandoned, abused and special-needs cats, including end-of-life care at a lifetime sanctuary.

Who we are

Nekoten House is a registered nonprofit cat sanctuary founded in 2012 and owned and operated by Sachiko, a dedicated cat advocate and experienced caretaker.

The sanctuary is a safe, loving home for cats who have faced hardship, abandonment, illness, abuse, and old age. Offering them comfort, stability, and dignity for the rest of their lives.

Today, Nekoten House provides lifetime care for close to 100 cats, housed in clean rooms designed for feline wellbeing, climbing spaces, resting areas, and outdoor access when possible.

The challenges we face:

  • Sanctuary care is constant, and Nekoten House receives no local or government funding.

  • Ongoing funding pressure

    • The sanctuary operates on the kindness of private donors.
Day-to-day survival depends on consistent support for essentials.

  • High monthly supply needs

    • Large ongoing needs for:

    • cat food

    • cat litter

    • cleaning supplies

    • comfort and enrichment items

    • medical care support

  • Finding consistent volunteers

    • In-person help is needed weekly or monthly, but stable volunteer support can be difficult to secure.
