Give Kids in Amami Oshima
a Safe Place to Belong, and a Bigger Future

ME Amami x KiFor Youth Development Educa

Help us create an online “ibasho”, so kids have ongoing support,
not just once or twice a year.

In Japan, “ibasho” (居場所) means a safe place to belong.  Somewhere you can be yourself without pressure.

On Amami Oshima, many children grow up with fewer chances to meet adults who can broaden their world. There is no university on the island, and many young people who leave after high school don’t return.

Over time, that can shrink the number of role models, mentors, and supportive connections a child can reach.

This campaign supports charity ME Amami to build something simple but powerful: a safe, consistent way for kids to talk with, and learn from, trusted adults outside the island.

The goal & what we're building

Our goal: ¥1,000,000 before 14th June 2026

We are raising ¥1,000,000 to help ME Amami launch an online ibasho for kids, and start it properly with a mid-June 2026 kickoff. This support becomes real, safe, and ongoing, not just something that happens once or twice a year.

What we’re building with your support
(Two things)

1. Online “Ibasho” Connection Space
(Phase 1 launch)

A safe online place where children in Amami Oshima can talk with trusted “Senpai” adults outside the island for mentoring and support.

What your donation funds:

  • Recruiting, interviewing and coordinating trusted mentors

  • Matching kids with the right mentor and supporting continuity

  • Parent onboarding, consent, and basic safeguarding guidelines

  • Scheduling, follow-up, and support so kids don’t drop off

  • Outreach, so families who need this most can actually access

(Program delivery uses Zoom, primarily 1:1 sessions with a small number of group sessions. Ages: Grade 5–Grade 12)

2. Mid-June Kickoff (Launch Event)

An in-person kickoff that builds trust and momentum so the online support becomes real.
With a parent briefing, onboarding, and first mentor introductions.

What your donation funds:

  • Travel and transport support so kids can actually attend

  • Supplies and materials to make the day safe and meaningful

  • Staff coordination to accommodate parents, kids & mentors

  • A clear onboarding process so the online program starts smoothly in June 2026

Who you're supporting

ME Amami has already reached 104 children (elementary to high school). But today, most experience-based opportunities happen only around twice per year during long school holidays.

This campaign helps shift support from “sometimes” to “ongoing”, so a child can feel, even on an ordinary week
“I have someone I can talk to.”
